It's an interesting situation, I'll grant him that. He puts so much stock in it because he so firmly believes that Reuben's courtship with Emerella is what gave him the edge, in the end, the final push ahead in a very close race. I can understand that. The problem, of course, is the timing. Perhaps if Reuben were on his deathbed, this would be less outrageous, but he is certainly not. Regardless of how he enjoys lamenting his age.
Lord Reston must know that people are going to talk about his intentions, and some of the implications made are going to be rather insidious, considering what happened with King Charles. History repeating itself, with perhaps a bit of nudging along the desired path?
