HISTORY Mydra was, quite simply, born into a life of politics. Her father, a wealthy Kanemorian noble with lucrative ties to the jewel trade, instilled in her the importance of political involvement and the rules of the game from the start, always stressing the importance of honor and winning influence through earning the respect of others. Her mother, a Kilian mage of some repute, well known for her talents and beauty, instructed her in the finer arts of political intrigue; how to watch, how to read between the lines, how to listen through lies and all else to learn truths never spoken of or even implied.
She gave both her equal attention, and from a young age, found the seedier districts of Norey -- the city she called home -- a fascinating arena in which to test her skills. She made friends among the commoners and thieves, applying her father's knowledge to win their trust and favor, and her mother's lessons to learn their motivations and stories, their struggles and most importantly, their ambitions. Before long, a network began forming, with her as its head and street folk of all kinds as its body, eyes and ears that no one gave a second glance, each reporting back to her in turn.
Knowledge became her passion, and not simply the acedemics she learned from her tutors, the magic she learned from her mother, or the political science she picked up from her father. The bits and pieces she garnered from her eyes and ears on the common streets of Norey provided sometimes far more fascinating information; which nobles allied with whom behind closed doors, who plotted to bring down whom, their motivations, their methods. Who served in the seedier underground guilds of the city -- who headed them, what their aims were, their targets. Where to buy the finest poisons for the fewest gold pieces, where to stand and what words to say to purchase the richest in smuggled and stolen goods, how to enter safely into the heart of an assassin's guild and name a target -- for a price. All of this and more, she learned, and still she was never satisfied; knowledge was her passion, and all passions have a price.
Her family and friends among the upper class remained blissfully unaware of her undertakings in this regard; or so she thought. At the age of sixteen, her mother whispered in her ear of an opportunity she might wish to pursue; weeks later, she found herself in the employ of the King of Kanemoria, an inductee into an expansive network of eyes and informants from all walks of life, all serving beneath a man Mydra would eventually come to know and respect as his Highness's Master of Spies.
Using her own network to her advantage -- many of whom were unaffiliated with the one she now served in directly -- she quickly rose in rank and prestige, catching the eye of her superiors and eventually surpassing them, quick to learn and eager to progress, to be allowed the more important assignments, the more dangerous inquiries, the most notable targets, until eventually, at the age of twenty-two, she served along with an elite minority directly beneath the Master of Spies himself.
The time she spent in his service served only to further hone her skills; she became quite fascinated with him, though if he did favor her among the others in her tier none dared say so directly, and nothing came of their involvement, for what breeds from romance but lapses in judgement and disgrace? Still, when he disappeared little over a year later during a particularly dangerous reconaissance mission concerning repeated assassination attempts on the King himself, it was not without regrets that Mydra accepted the position in his place, at the age of twenty-three.
Now, fourteen years in serving at her new position, she has made quite a name for herself around the Palace; she is well known for being indominatable and iron-willed, unforgiving and sometimes harsh. She accepts no excuses and expects her commands to be followed; chief among her duties, of course, lies the task of keeping Kanemoria's current royal family safe from harm. It is rumoured that it is the difficulty of this task that has graced her with the almost permanent scowl on her face; but those who are wise know better than to whisper of such things where she can hear -- which, truth be told, is just about anywhere.

PERSONALITY Mydra is a woman known for having little humor and less patience, all business, all the time. She takes her duties very seriously -- chief among them the the protection of the King of Kanemoria and his two sons -- rooting out treasons and capital lawbreakers wherever she can. She is not without her mercies, however, where advantages for her are concerned; it is rumoured she knows enough about several seedier organizations and operations to crush them inexorably, but does not, presumably because they serve some purpose for her ends. Just what those ends are or what purpose they serve, few know, and those who do certainly aren't telling.
She prefers direct approaches to matters, pragmatic problem solving and cold logic to anything; yet she can see the worth in manipulating emotions and the value in smoke and mirrors -- though she tends to leave tasks better served in those matters to her confidants, and to then look upon them with some contempt, for that matter. She cannot abide breaches of trust, no matter how minute; it is well known among the spies in her employ that the price of betrayal, no matter how minute, is death, and a swift one at that.
Though she is not well loved, she is well-respected, and there are few who know her who would not admit, even if grudgingly, that few could do the job she does half so well as she.

APPEARANCE Mydra has her father's tall stature and light green eyes, and her mother's pale complexion and silvery-white hair, which she typically keeps cropped short about her ears, rarely letting it grow out longer than shoulder-length. She wears clothing befitting her rank about the palace, yet nothing ostentatious; in the field, she dresses dark and inconspicuous, cloaked and garbed in the way of an upper middle-class merchant.
